The Story
Steve and Nikki
were married on May 25, 2010. Steve was the "back manager" at a
Pizza Factory restaurant (where they met) and Nikki was just starting a position as "front manager" of a brand new Pizza Factory in a nearby city. With their combined income they were able to purchase a new home. They were excited to move in just a few weeks after they were married.

Less than two months after getting married, on July 17, 2010, Steve was in a motorcycle accident and was seriously injured. The other driver was cited, but the accident caused severe damage to his right shoulder area.
Miracles happened as a police officer was close to the scene and a medical helicopter happened to already be flying in the area due to a cancelled pick up. One of the medical helicopter personnel told us that Steve would have died due to loss of blood had they arrived even a few minutes later.
Steve was flown directly to the University of Utah Hospital where he was given 16 units of blood, underwent several hours of surgery, and almost lost his arm. He also had four more surgeries over the next nine days.
Steve's right arm will never be normal again. Among
other injuries, he lost his right pectoral muscle and two of the five main nerves going into his arm. The other three nerves are severely damaged and it's still unknown how well they will heal.
After weeks in the hospital, Steve needs 24/7 care from Nikki and other family members. He will need multiple surgeries on his shoulder over the next year or two, as well as physical and occupational therapy for up to five years. He will not be able to work for a long time and will be hindered by his damaged arm for the rest of his life. Nikki's work schedule has been and will continue to be interrupted as she continues to care for her new husband.
It is estimated that medical expenses alone could exceed $1 million over the next few years. After assessing the insurance policies of both drivers, it is believed they may get as much as $200,000 to help with medical bills and living expenses. Needless to say, this won't be nearly enough. They need help if they are going to pay the bills, keep their new home, and give Steve the ongoing medical attention he needs to recover.
We gratefully ask that you help them overcome this rough start in their marriage by
donating whatever you feel comfortable with, even if it is just $1.00. If enough people donate even a little bit of money, it could go a long way towards helping Steve and Nikki.
Thank you!
